Aloha! It’s been a pretty cold month here in Canada, so ProPet Software decided to warm up with a customer spotlight all the way from the Halawa Heights area of Aiea, Hawaii. Kamp K9 Hawaii LLC is a serene, small home business where your pet is treated like a member of the family. The facility is designed to be a caring home atmosphere for your furry friend, where they can enjoy a little vacation of their own while you’re away. In keeping with the island life, everything about Kamp K9 is relaxed and fun, consisting of a lush outdoor play area where pets can burn off their energy and comfortable places for them to rest inside. We took a minute to chat with Bertha, who owns and runs Kamp K9 with her husband, about their business and all things dog. Read on to check it out!
ProPet: Why did you get into the pet business?
Bertha: We used a traditional facility many years ago, sadly our dog didn’t get the best care and got incredibly sick to the point we almost lost her. We didn’t want other families to go through what we went through, and that’s how Kamp K9 Hawaii began.
So many families out here care a great deal about their dogs, and we wanted them to feel reassured that when they leave their pups with us we will take extra, extra care of their fur-family members and they will be taken in like part of our ohana (family in Hawaiian).
ProPet: What is the most fulfilling part of your day?
Bertha: The most fulfilling part of my day is watching the dogs play and relax. Giving them a chance to enjoy their time away from their ohana without being over stressed being around too many dogs and not getting the attention they deserve.
ProPet: What is your favourite part of each day?
Bertha: The favorite part of my day is watching all the personalities of the dogs and trying to capture our K9 Kampers doing something funny or silly for the camera.
ProPet: What are some challenges that you face?
Bertha: A few challenges in the past were owners not being honest about their dog’s temperament and/or behavior. We had to have dogs picked up due to them being unfriendly, aggressive or destructive. It’s hard to give the “bad news” to owners about their dog, but the safety and well-being of all dogs in our care is our number one priority. I always tell owners, “I will not force or torment your dog by making them stay here when they clearly don’t want to.”
ProPet: What has ProPet changed about the way that you run your business?
Bertha: ProPet is helping me communicate with my customers better and reduce paperwork. It’s so much easier now to have our clients be able to reach out to us, update their information, request a reservation and pay with one system as opposed to calling, emailing and texting.
ProPet Software is a one stop shop for our clients and for us as well.
In a world where everything moves at a fast pace, it was great to catch up with a business that is focused on creating a relaxing environment for their boarders. It’s awesome to know that ProPet can be a part of that environment by helping with communication and simplifying everyday business practices. Learning more about our clients is really important to us, so thanks for taking the time to chat with us Bertha! Working alongside Kamp K9 continues to be a pleasure. Aloha!
